SUN SETS ON A THRILLING 2025 TROPICAL 7s

The 2025 TROPICAL 7s tournament wrapped up in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, April 19th, delivering yet another unforgettable weekend of rugby. Teams from across the Americas and around the globe competed across a wide range of age grades and divisions, all under perfect blue skies and an atmosphere charged with high energy and great sportsmanship.
In the U18 Boys Elite division, it was an all-American final, where USA Rugby South Panther Academy proved too strong for Eagle Impact Rugby Academy (EIRA), winning with a 29-14 scoreline. On the girls’ side, Majestics clinched the U18 Girls Elite title after a closely fought 24-19 win over TOA Rugby, building on their previous championship win in 2023.

The U18 Boys Open title also went to USA Rugby South Panther Academy, showcasing the depth of their program, with a convincing 19-5 victory over Toronto Rugby Reds of Canada. In the U18 Girls Open final, Canadian side, NRU Thunder capped off a thrilling run with a 26-15 win over NCYRU. Another Canadian team, Kings Edgehill School, took home the U18 Girls Development crown, going undefeated (6-0) in the round-robin format for this division for new rugby programs.
Rebel Rugby Academy edged out Atlantis to take the U16 Boys Elite title. The two sides finished level on points after the pool phase, with Rebel taking the title based on their head-to-head victory. In the U16 Girls Elite, NRU Thunder continued their impressive tournament performance, narrowly defeating Utah Cannibals in what effectively became a two-horse race in this pool-only divsion. In the U16 Boys Open, Ontario side EORU ‘Elias’ impressed with a 17-10 victory over Atlantis. Meanwhile, Crimson Tide emerged victorious in the U16 Girls Open after an all-Canadian three-way playoff against MacDowell Rugby and Barrie RFC.

The U14 Boys division saw both teams from USA Rugby South Panther Academy reach the final, with their ‘Blue’ side eventually capturing the title - further highlighting the strength of the Panther program. In the U14 Girls, Atlantis dominated from start to finish, securing a commanding 47-0 win over USA West in the final. In the youngest age group, U12 Coed, Utah MVP displayed standout performances winning the final 35-5 in style against the San Diego Mustangs to close out the youth divisions in style.

At the combined U23/Collegiate level, Assassins Academy claimed the U23 Men’s championship with an impressive 34-7 victory over Rugby XV. In the U23/Collegiate Women’s division, Canada’s U23 Vikings overcame Davenport University in a tight 19-14 battle for the Championship.
The Senior Elite divisions— added to the lineup only just last year — saw returning champions emerge victorious once again. Crewmen Rugby retained their Senior Men’s Elite title after a powerful campaign, finishing ahead of the Black Goats. In the Senior Women’s Elite final, MacDowell Rugby (CAN) were pushed all the way with a 26-19 win over West Indies Rugby in the final.
