HOW TO BECOME A TROPICAL 7s REFEREE AND GET A TOP EXPERIENCE

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Tropical 7s attracts qualified and experienced match officials from across the globe to be part of our International Referee Programme and officiate at one of the world's leading international youth rugby events. Our International Referee Programme provides a unique opportunity to officiate at the event while staying onsite at the Omni Championsgate Resort in Orlando, Florida, USA.   The programme is delivered in partnership with Back10PROs, an industry-leading rugby referee specialists which supports the referee programme with dedicated referee coaching working directly with all Tropical 7s referees during the event. To apply to become a referee at the 2021 TROPICAL 7s RUGBY RE-BOOT, interested referees should complete the application form below and you will be contacted shortly by the Tropical 7s Referee Manager.

KEY INFORMATION

  • WHEN: 2-3 April 2021 in Orlando, FL, USA (Fri/Sat of Easter weekend)

  • WHERE: Omni Championsgate Resort, Orlando, Florida (field complex located on-site at the Omni Resort)

  • AGES: Age Groups at the 2021 Tropical 7s are available for boys/girls at U18, U16, U14, U12, U10 and University/U23 (men and women).

  • SCOPE: Due to the impacts of COVID pandemic, the Tropical 7s has launched the 2021 RUGBY RE-BOOT, which will see an adaptive version of the event to meet the needs of teams looking for a rugby experience. It is foreseen that competitive opportunities that will require referees will be scheduled amongst participating teams, but this will remain fluid due to the ongoing uncertainty.  All referee assignments will be organized by the Referee Manager. Modified rules may be implemented as determined by the Competition Director.

2021 REFEREE PROGRAMME DETAILS

The offer for participating referees includes:

  • Accommodation provided for 2 nights (shared room) at the Omni Orlando Resort.

  • Transfers to and from Orlando International Airport Thursday 1st April and upon the conclusion of the event.

  • Match fees (details provided on request)

  • Referee coaching throughout the tournament as provided by Back10PROs.

  • Dedicated referee area

  • Nutrition and hydration throughout the day

  • Referees dinner on Friday 2nd April 2021 (TBD COVID Pending)

  • Opportunity to access discounted room rates for referees wishing to extend their stay at the Omni Orlando Resort.

  • Flight and other travel costs are NOT be reimbursed.

REFEREE EXPECTATIONS

Expectations from participating referees include:

  • Complete the below application.

  • Be a qualified referee and have experience refereeing rugby 7s

  • Be of good standing with their home union.

  • Be available for both days of competition and ready for each match assignment.

  • Bring all refereeing equipment as needed.

  • Work closely with the Referee Manager to manage scheduling and match assignments.

  • Communicate with Event Management for any issue regarding referee duties e.g. disciplinary
