INTERNATIONAL SIDES MAKE THEIR MARK AT THE 2026 TROPICAL 7s

The 2026 TROPICAL 7s tournament wrapped up in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, April 4th, delivering another unforgettable weekend of rugby. Teams from across the United States and around the world competed across a wide range of age grades and divisions, once again creating a vibrant international atmosphere at the Tournament SportsPlex of Tampa Bay. This year also produced a clean sweep of new winners, with all 17 division champions crowned for the first time in their respective divisions.

In the U18 Boys Elite division, TOA Rugby Academy of Idaho claimed the title with a 26-10 win over Rebel Rugby Academy in the championship final. On the girls’ side, Australia’s Renegades 32 edged two-time champions, Majestics 24-22 in a thrilling U18 Girls Elite final to cap an outstanding weekend for the touring side.
The U18 Boys Open crown went to SacAIR Islanders of Sacramento, California, who defeated USA Rugby South Panther Academy 28-12 in the final. In the U18 Girls Open division, Aurora Barbarians of Aurora, Ontario were crowned champions after a 17-7 victory over USA West.

Australia continued to make its mark in the U16 elite divisions. Renegades 32 captured the U16 Boys Elite title with a 21-12 win over Atlantis Rugby, while Shockwave Rugby Academy also of Australia claimed the U16 Girls Elite championship with a 22-7 victory over British Columbia’s West Coast Mainlanders.
In the open divisions, Loudoun County, Virginia defeated Badger Selects, Wisconsin 26-7 to win the U16 Boys Open, while Provo Steelers of Utah shut out Cayman Islands 22-0 to take home the U16 Girls Open title.

In the younger age grades, Texas-based Gorilla Rugby won the U14 Boys title with a 24-19 victory over Atlantis Rugby, while Utah Cannibals claimed the U14 Girls championship in a hard-fought 5-0 final against USA West. In the youngest divisions, San Diego Mustangs of California secured the U12 Coed title with a 20-5 win over St. Pete Pelicans, while Westlake Drua were crowned the first U12 Girls champions after a dominant 30-0 victory over Celtic Barbarians of Canada.

At the U23/collegiate level, Indiana University lifted the U23 Men’s Open title with a 26-17 win over Queens University of Charlotte. In the U23 Women’s Open division, SARC 7s Sharks defeated Princeton University 24-14 to win the championship, while Trinity Western University from British Columbia, Canada edged Life University 12-10 in the U23 Women’s Elite final.

The senior divisions added even more quality to the weekend. Canada’s Pirates 7s, from Québec, were crowned Senior Men’s champions with a 27-12 win over Viti Barbarians, while LIT Sevens of the United Kingdom claimed the Senior Women’s title after a narrow 10-7 victory under the floodlights over NAV 7s in the championship final.

With champions representing the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK, and every division producing a new winner, the 2026 edition once again underlined Tropical 7s’ status as one of the premier international youth rugby festivals in the game.

Attention now turns to 2027, when TROPICAL 7s will celebrate its 10th anniversary edition — a major milestone for an event that has grown into one of the sport’s leading international youth and pathway tournaments.
