STRONG DEMAND FOR THE 2022 TROPICAL 7s

2022 EVENT PROMISES TO BE LARGEST TOURNAMENT TO DATE

15 February 2022 -- Teams have been registering in numbers for the 2022 TROPICAL 7s, which will take place over 15-16 April 2022 in Tampa, Florida, USA. This year's event is now likely to surpass the previous Tropical 7s record of 110 registered teams set in back in 2019.

With two months to go until this year's tournament, the tournament is still open for registrations -- which have surpassed 100 registered teams and still growing.

The Tropical 7s is open to clubs, schools, academies, universities/colleges and representative sides from around the United States and across the globe. Team spaces are still available (at the time of this release) across all divisions: U23, U18, U16, U14 (boys and girls) as well as for the new U12 'Co-ed' division -- a new age grade that has been introduced for the first time this year. However, each division has a cap for team spaces and some divisions are expected to move to 'wait-list' status shortly. Prospective teams are encouraged to register for the tournament as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.

The 2022 teams list sees the welcome return of many familiar clubs to the Tropical 7s including a number of returning champions as well as a growing number of new teams experiencing the Tropical 7s for the first time. The 2022 Tropical 7s also sees the welcome return of international teams to the Tropical 7s, most notably from Canada and the UK, after missing out on the last two years as a result of the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic.

"The response from the rugby community towards to the 2022 Tropical 7s has been inspiring after a challenging couple of years," said Tropical 7s Tournament Director John Siner. "After the forced cancellation in 2020 and our modified edition last year, the demand we are seeing for this year demonstrates the strong desire for teams and players to get back to tournament rugby again."

Tropical 7s was one of the first rugby tournament's to return to rugby safely last year with the 2021 Tropical 7s 'Rugby Re-Boot'.

All athletes and participating players are invited to participate in the Tropical 7s Athlete Combine, which runs 12-pm on Thursday 14 April in the day preceding the competition. The combine will be co-organized by USA Rugby and USA Weightlifting. In parallel, this will serve as an official USAR Talent ID session with USAR scouts and national team coaches working directly with athletes and observing over the duration of the tournament.
