TAMPA - 28th MARCH 2024: Anticipation is building ahead of this weekend’s 2024 TROPICAL 7s, which take place on March 29th and 30th in Tampa, Florida. Organisers have announced a record number of teams are set to compete, with 209 teams registered across 18 different divisions making the trip to Tampa this weekend.
This year marks the tournament's most extensive international presence to date with one-third of the teams hailing from outside the United States. Teams from some of rugby’s powerhouses are set to attend including sides from Australia, England, Canada, and the Caribbean, adding to the exciting global flavor of the event.
The growth of the tournament's girls' competition has been impressive, with a record
97 female teams registered (almost half of the total team entry) echoing the growth of the girls’ game globally. 2024 sees the tournament offer more girls divisions than boys divisions including an U18 Girls ‘Development’ division which now provides an opportunity for new players to experience the excitement and thrill of the Tropical 7s.
"The overwhelming response from teams both domestically and internationally is a testament to the growing popularity and prestige of the Tropical 7s," remarked tournament Executive Director, John Siner. The 2024 edition of the Tropical 7s also promises to be a groundbreaking event, introducing several new initiatives and partnerships that will elevate the tournament experience to new levels. For the first time in the tournament's history, all 15 fields at the Tampa venue will be utilized, making use of the impressive field facilities available.
In a move sure to delight both players and spectators alike, the 2024 Tropical 7s will introduce new evening sessions under floodlights. This addition not only extends the playing time but also adds a unique ambiance to this year’s competition. 2024 also sees the introduction of new senior men’s and women’s divisions for the first time.
The tournament is proud to announce new partnerships including the US Army, the Miami Sharks, and Banana Boat, alongside returning partners ITZ Rugby and Unilink Sports .
TROPICAL 7s can announce Game On Live Studio (GOLS) as the new official live stream provider for the 2024 tournament. GOLS will provide comprehensive coverage of every game, allowing fans to experience the excitement of the Tropical 7s in real-time. The live streams will be accessible through GOLS' online platform and will provide an immersive experience with improved camera angles as well as live play-by-play commentary. A number of new venue upgrades will also feature including the unveiling of a new stage dedicated to trophy presentations and entertainment. This central focal point will provide a platform to celebrate the achievements of the winning teams while also offering spectators a vibrant atmosphere filled with music and prize giveaways..
Adding to the overall experience, a new vendor pavilion has been added. The new building will accommodate the tournament’s official merchandise store (by ITZ Rugby) allowing for an appealing and more efficient sales area. The new vendor building will also house a dedicated tournament welcome and team registration desk, a new ice sales point as well as five additional vendor booths which have all been allocated to tournament vendors. This addition aims to enhance the spectator experience and create a lively atmosphere throughout the duration of the tournament.
