PRE-SELECTION FOR RUGBY 10S CHAMPIONSHIP TO TAKE PLACE AT TROPICAL 7s


The Rugby 10s Championship will be conducting a pre-selection phase for the player pool at the 2022 Tropical 7s to join the exciting new global professional Rugby 10s series for men, women and youth academies. All Tropical 7s participating athletes are invited to apply and make themselves available for evaluation over the course of the event that takes place in Tampa, Florida, USA on April 15/16, 2022. The Rugby Tens Championship (R10C) is global professional Rugby 10s series that features franchises with professional men and women, and Academy U19 Boys/Girls teams. The 2022 Championship will be played over 2 weekends in South Africa: Pretoria on October 1-2 and Cape Town on October 8-9. returns in Fall 2022.


After a very successful launch in Portugal in November 2021 that saw players from 29 countries competing, R10C brings its equality-driven competition to one of the strongest rugby communities in the world.

“R10C is an exciting concept in sport and we look forward to hosting the event. It brings equality for Men and Women at various levels including compensation structure, it’s a unique development pathway for Boys and Girls and it creates opportunities for diverse competition with players from countries such as New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, USA, Ireland, Kenya, Portugal, Sweden, South Africa and more” said R10C co-founder and president of the South African Franchise, Blue Bulls Rugby Union, Willem Strauss.


The franchises, including the Balkans Honey Badgers, Cape Town Wild Dogs, San Clemente Rhinos, and Serengeti Elephants, will bring some of the best current and rising 7s, 10s and 15s talent around the world and will compete for the 2022 Championship title.


Each team will play three pool matches before qualifying for the play-off stages and competing for the Tournament Cup in Pretoria. The franchises compete for the Championship Title in Cape Town by earning points based on their Men, Women, Academy Boys and Girls rankings.

“R10C creates strong connections between youth and the professional game and it drives equality for Men & Women and Boys & Girls in sport. It evangelizes the sport in new communities, and celebrates Rugby and its values in a festival-like atmosphere” commented Andreea Trufasu, R10C Co-Founder.
