Tropical 7s STATEMENT ON CORONAVIRUS

2020 TOURNAMENT MOVING FORWARD AS PLANNED

13 MARCH 2020 -- THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED -- CLICK HERE.

06 MARCH 2020 -- In the last few days, we have received enquiries from participating teams relating to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak and the potential impact for the 2020 Tropical 7s. At the present time, we are committed to hosting the 2020 Tropical 7s as planned on the 10th and 11th April.

As of this writing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC — the national public health agency of the United States) have emphasized that there is not currently a coronavirus pandemic in the United States, and at this time the number of cases across the U.S. is relatively small. Given the dynamic nature of this outbreak, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and any future decisions will be based on advice and/or direction from public health policy entities as well as from Orlando tourism authorities who we are in close contact with.

As of March 6th:

  • Florida remains open for business and all Orlando resorts and theme parks remain open and operational.
  • There are currently no reported cases of COVID-19 Coronavirus infection in the Orlando area.
  • There are no teams participating in the 2020 Tropical 7s from countries designated as a Level 2, 3 or 4 alert by the CDC. Updates and impacted countries can be found on the CDC's Travel Health Notices page. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices
  • We are in close dialogue with the Omni Hotel and our other accommodation providers who are also monitoring the situation and following public health policy and guidelines
  • Attendees (player, coaches and entourage) should not travel to Tropical 7s if they are feeling unwell. Attendees should monitor the CDC travel guidelines for the latest information prior to their departure: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html
  • Orlando Airport (MCO) is complying with US Government travel restrictions which bars entry to the U.S. of most foreign nationals who traveled to China or Iran within the 14 days immediately prior to arrival in the United States. Please ensure all attendees within your group are aware of these restrictions before travelling.

Given how quickly the global situation is evolving, we are monitoring developments and will continue to reevaluate our steps and actions daily. Our priority remains the health and safety of all participants at the 2020 Tropical 7s: players, coaches, referees, suppliers, spectators and other attendees. We will be closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates in the coming weeks as we continue to monitor the situation.

Common sense precautions include washing your hands regularly, staying fit and eating healthy to keep immune systems strong. Please seek medical attention if you feel unwell.

We are looking forward to welcoming all participants to sunny Florida in just a few weeks for another great edition of the Tropical 7s!
