International Youth Sevens

Canada U-18 Womens Team Confirmed

The Canadian U-18 womens national 7s team has confirmed their participation in the 2017 TROPICAL 7s. Boosted by the senior womens bronze medal performance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Canada has become a real player on the international 7s scene.

The younger U-18 side will look to develop their own Olympic dream, and continue to seek out the high-level competition that the TROPICAL 7s offers. The "Maple Leafs" will join the U-18 womens elite division that already includes their USA counterpart.

“We are looking forward to bringing our team to Florida this spring,” said Meaghan Howat, Rugby Canada’s Director of Rugby Sevens Operations. “The Tropical 7s is a great opportunity to give our U18 and age-grade players more game experience against top players in the United States. This tournament is an example of the continued growth of rugby in North America and the kind of competitions we need to keep developing our players. We look forward to competing against the USA national side and other top teams that will make this a great competition for us.”

While positioned to attract the world's elite youth teams, the competition is open to all teams of various skill levels for boys and girls sides at U-18, U-16, U-14, and university levels.

“We are excited to have the Maple Leafs womens team as one of the headliners for our inaugural event,” said TROPICAL 7s Executive Director John Siner. “The concept for this event is to have great rugby competition at every level and are inviting youth and university teams from around the world to join us in the tropics of Florida. Teams will love the guaranteed sunny weather and pristine grass pitches alongside a top tourism experience.”

Registration is still open for the first edition of the TROPICAL 7s in April 2017.
