The first edition of the Tropical 7s was held in April 2017 and featured teams from England, Canada, Mexico, and across the United States. Demand is expected to be high for an expanded 2018 edition that will once again take place over the Easter holiday week. Spots in each age group will be limited and teams are encouraged to sign up early.
The tournament is open for teams from around the globe for boys and girls at U-18, U-16, U-14 and university men/women age brackets. It is targeted for high-level and internationally focused Olympic rugby sevens and welcomes clubs, schools and select sides to compete in both open and elite divisions.
The tournament takes place at the stunning Omni Orlando Championsgate Resort, which features an on-site sport facility with professionally maintained fields that ensures perfect playing conditions along with guaranteed warm weather -- all located in the heart of Florida’s world-class tourist attractions.
“We had a great event a few months ago and teams were immediately asking when they can sign up for 2018,” said Tropical 7s Executive Director John Siner. “So we are excited to open registration and we invite youth and university teams from around the world to join us in Florida for a unique combination of great international rugby alongside a fantastic tourism experience. We will have a great mix of international and US teams.”
“Once again we invite teams to arrive early and take advantage of our facilities to set up training camp, organise sessions with our international coaches, and participate in the athlete combine,” said Siner. “We will also have social activities alongside the normal amazing Omni resort offerings to make sure everyone has a great overall experience. And of course there are the many world-renowned tourist attractions nearby.”
Tournament organisers are offering an early registration period at a discounted rate ( now extended until 31 December 2017. There will be a cap on the number of sides in each division so teams are encouraged to sign up early to guarantee their place.
